Named after Anton Saefkow (1903–1944), a communist resistance fighter.
From 1941 Saefkow built up the largest KPD resistance group in Berlin, which he led in 1944 with Bernhard Bästlein and Franz Jacob. Arrested in July 1944, he was executed at Brandenburg-Görden on 18 September. The square, named in 1975, is the centre of Fennpfuhl; other streets nearby honour fellow resistance fighters.
