Named after Bernhard Bästlein (1894–1944), a communist politician and resistance fighter.
Bästlein, a KPD politician elected to the Reichstag in March 1933, was arrested in 1942. An air raid on Plötzensee prison let him escape in January 1944, and he helped lead the Saefkow-Jacob-Bästlein organisation. Betrayed by a Gestapo informer, he was rearrested and executed at Brandenburg-Görden on 18 September 1944. The street was named in 1973.
