Named after two streets that meet here: Brunnenstraße and Invalidenstraße.
Brunnenstraße (‘Well Street’), laid out in 1752, led to a healing spring in today’s Badstraße. Invalidenstraße is named after the Invalidenhaus, the home for disabled soldiers that Frederick the Great had built; it was occupied on 15 November 1748. From 1961 to 1990 a border crossing between East and West Berlin stood on Invalidenstraße.
