Named after the Bürgerpark Pankow, a twelve-hectare park along the Panke.
In 1856 Hermann Killisch von Horn, founder of the Berliner Börsen-Zeitung, bought a former paper mill here and turned it into a country estate with an English-style landscape garden. In 1907 the municipality of Pankow, under mayor Wilhelm Kuhr, bought the park for 1.45 million marks, saving it from property speculation.
