Tschaikowskistraße

Niederschönhausen

Named after the Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

Tchaikovsky (1840–1893) got this street in 1950. It had been the Charlottenburger Weg and then Kaiserin-Augusta-Straße; the renaming came with the name changes in the ‘Städtchen Pankow’, the special zone where the families of the new GDR government lived. Tschaikowskistraße 1 is the address of Schloss Schönhausen, the palace that became the seat of GDR president Wilhelm Pieck.
