Named after Drontheimer Straße; ‘Drontheim’ is the old German name of Trondheim.
The street already existed in the 18th century as Sandstraße. In 1897 it was named after the Norwegian city of Trondheim, following a visit to Berlin by Oscar II, king of Sweden from 1872 and also king of Norway from 1872 to 1905.
