The name recalls the Görlitzer Bahnhof, the old terminus of the railway to Görlitz.
The Görlitzer Bahnhof (Görlitz station) stood just south-east of here: opened in 1866, it was the terminus of the line via Cottbus to Görlitz. Damaged in the Second World War, it was closed in 1951, and the Görlitzer Park now covers its site. The U-Bahn station opened in 1902 as Oranienstraße and took the terminus’s name in 1926, at the passengers’ request.
