Named after Grünbergallee, which honours the resistance fighter Alfred Grünberg.
Alfred Grünberg (1901–1942), a worker and KPD member living in Bohnsdorf, carried writings for the banned party between Berlin and Prague. He was sentenced to death for high treason and executed at Plötzensee in 1942. The Schönefelder Straße where he lived was renamed after him in 1948; a halt here took the name in 1949, and today’s station opened in 1962.
