Named after Hellersdorf, an old village first recorded as Helwichstorpp.
Hellersdorf appears in the land book of Emperor Charles IV of 1375 as ‘Helwichstorpp’, with 25 hides, a tavern and a mill. Later a manor, it was bought by the city of Berlin in 1886. In 1986 its name was given to a new district built around a large prefabricated housing estate; the station opened in 1989.
