Named after Hermann-Hesse-Straße and Waldstraße (‘forest street’).
Laid out after 1899 as Bismarckstraße, the first street was renamed in 1951 after Kurt Fischer, interior minister of Saxony, and in 1992 after the writer Hermann Hesse (1877–1962), Nobel laureate of 1946. Waldstraße recalls the woods of the Schönhauser Fichten, remains of the royal forest.
