Named after the Julius-Leber-Brücke, the bridge that honours a Social Democrat of the resistance.
Julius Leber (1891–1945) was an SPD member of the Reichstag and an opponent of the Nazis. He worked in the resistance disguised as an employee of a coal merchant on the Rote Insel, the neighbourhood around the bridge. The plotters around Stauffenberg had chosen him as interior minister; arrested on 5 July 1944, he was executed at Plötzensee on 5 January 1945.
