Named after the Kaiserdamm, the grand avenue named in honour of Kaiser Wilhelm II.
The 50-metre-wide avenue was laid out at the wish of Wilhelm II, the last German Emperor, and has borne his title ('Kaiser' = emperor) since December 1906. In April 1967, just after Konrad Adenauer's death, the street and the station were renamed Adenauerdamm. Strong protests from Berliners led to the old name returning on 15 January 1968.
