Named after Theodor-Heuss-Platz, which honours West Germany's first Federal President.
The station opened on 29 March 1908 as Reichskanzlerplatz, like the square above it. In 1933 both were renamed Adolf-Hitler-Platz; after the war the old name returned. On 18 December 1963, six days after the death of Theodor Heuss (1884–1963), first President of the Federal Republic from 1949 to 1959, square and station received his name.
