Kienberg (Gärten der Welt)

Hellersdorf

Named after the Kienberg hill and the Gärten der Welt park at its foot.

The Kienberg is a hill from the Ice Age, recorded as Kiehnberg in 1822; the park now called Gärten der Welt ('Gardens of the World') opened at its northern foot in 1987. The station opened in 1989 as Heinz-Hoffmann-Straße, after the GDR defence minister, and later carried the name Neue Grottkauer Straße. It got its present name in December 2016, ahead of the 2017 International Garden Exhibition.
