Neukölln

Named after Neukölln, which was called Rixdorf until 1912.

By 1912 ‘Rixdorf’ had become a byword for frivolous amusement, as the popular song ‘In Rixdorf ist Musike’ shows. Mayor Hermann Boddin had pushed for a new name, and Kaiser Wilhelm II approved ‘Neukölln’ on 27 January 1912. It came from the Neucölln settlements north of Rixdorf, outside the southern gates of old Berlin-Cölln. The ring station has been called Neukölln since 15 March 1912.
