Named after the Olympiastadion, built for the 1936 Olympic Games.
The station opened on 8 June 1913 as ‘Stadion’, the day Kaiser Wilhelm II opened the nearby Deutsches Stadion. Before the 1936 Games it became Reichssportfeld, and on 26 June 1950 Olympia-Stadion. From 1992 to 1999 it was briefly ‘Olympia-Stadion (Ost)’. Only the hyphen distinguishes it from the S-Bahn station Olympiastadion, more than 500 metres away.
