Named after the Osram-Höfe, a former light-bulb factory, now offices and shops.
From 1904 the Bergmann-Electricitäts-Werke made light bulbs here. After Osram took over in 1935 it became Osram Works B (B for Bergmann), one of Europe’s largest light-bulb plants. ‘Osram’ combines osmium and Wolfram (tungsten), metals used for filaments. The listed buildings were officially renamed, but locals still say Osram-Höfe (‘Osram courtyards’).
