Schichauweg

Lichtenrade

Named after Schichauweg, which honours the engineer Ferdinand Schichau (1814–1896).

Schichau, from Elbing (now Elbląg), founded the Schichau works there in 1837, building hydraulic machines, dredgers and locomotives, and later a shipyard. In 1855 his works launched the Borussia, the first iron screw-driven seagoing steamer built in Prussia. The street was named in 1930; the station opened in 1990 as the only new S-Bahn station built by the BVG while it ran the S-Bahn in West Berlin.
