Warschauer Straße

Friedrichshain

Named after Warschauer Straße, which honours the Polish capital, Warsaw.

The street received its name on 23 February 1874, after the city of Warsaw, which then belonged to the Russian Empire. The U-Bahn terminus, opened on 17 August 1902, was long called Warschauer Brücke, after the bridge that carries the street over the railway. Closed when the Wall was built in 1961, it reopened on 14 October 1995 under the S-Bahn station's name, Warschauer Straße.
