Named after Weinmeisterstraße, a lane through a master vintner's garden.
In 1699 a path was laid through the garden of the Weinmeister (master vintner) Stohse. Known as Weinmeister-Gasse from about 1750, it became Weinmeisterstraße around 1820. The station beneath it opened on 18 April 1930. From 13 August 1961 to 1 July 1990 it was a ‘ghost station’ in East Berlin, through which West Berlin trains ran without stopping.
