Named after a red brick bridge over the River Roding.
It stood out because the other bridges in the area were made of white stone. Earlier known as Hocklee's Bridge, it was recorded from the 17th century and demolished in the early 1920s. The station, opened in 1947, was first to be West Ilford, then Red House, before Redbridge was chosen; the London Borough of Redbridge took the name in 1965.
