'Al Avenue' means the old avenue.
It is the Luxembourgish name of the avenue de la Gare, which links the station square with the Al Bréck, the old bridge (Passerelle) to the upper town. The avenue de la Liberté, laid out in the early 20th century as the extension of the Nei Bréck, the new Adolphe Bridge, is the Nei Avenue. Under the German occupation of 1940–1944 the old avenue was called Alte Bahnhofstraße.
