'Kierfecht' is Luxembourgish for cemetery.
The stop is named after Merl cemetery, officially the Cimetière de Merl or Merl-Belair. At just over 28 hectares it is the largest cemetery in the city, and it has special sections for the Jewish and Muslim communities. Until the merger of 1920 it belonged to the commune of Hollerich.
