Named after 45th Street, close to the park that gave Sunset Park its name.
The neighbourhood takes its name from a public park between Fifth and Seventh Avenues, from 41st to 44th Street. The park was so named because its elevated location offered views of the sunset to the west. By 1909 the area around it had been built up and was itself known as Sunset Park.
