Named after 77th Street, one of Brooklyn’s numbered streets.
Brooklyn has its own grid of numbered streets, separate from Manhattan’s: it starts with 1st Street in Park Slope and ends with 101st Street in Bay Ridge, crossed by avenues numbered from 1 to 28. Bay Ridge itself was once the westernmost part of the town of New Utrecht, made up of two villages: Yellow Hook in the north and Fort Hamilton in the south.
