Eighth Avenue was once 'Lapskaus Boulevard'; today it is lined by Brooklyn's Chinatown.
Norwegian immigrants called part of Eighth Avenue, on the edge of Bay Ridge, 'Lapskaus Boulevard', after lapskaus, a Northern European stew; the area was also known as Little Norway. In the 1980s Sunset Park became the location of Brooklyn's first Chinatown, along Eighth Avenue roughly between 44th and 68th Streets, and parts of the avenue have been colloquially re-christened Little Hong Kong.
