Named after the Brooklyn Bridge and New York City Hall, both beside the station.
The bridge opened in 1883 as the New York and Brooklyn Bridge, or East River Bridge, and was officially renamed the Brooklyn Bridge in 1915. City Hall, built from 1803 to 1812, is the oldest city hall in the United States still housing its original governmental functions. The station opened in 1904 as Brooklyn Bridge and was renamed Brooklyn Bridge–City Hall by the mid-1990s.
