Forgotten New York says Buhre Avenue, like nearby Daniel Street, is named for Daniel Buhre, whose farm was subdivided into lots to create a new neighbourhood around the old settlement of Middletown. The avenue was formerly called Libby Street. The name is pronounced to rhyme with ‘pure’.
