Named after President Grover Cleveland; the street was once Jefferson Street.
Eugene Armbruster’s history of the old town of New Lots lists Cleveland Street as formerly Jefferson Street, named for Grover Cleveland, the 22nd and 24th president of the United States. On the same list, nearby Warwick, Ashford and Elton Streets were once Washington, Adams and Madison Streets: one set of presidents gave way to new names.
