Said to recall ‘the liberty road’, free for farmers to travel.
An old Brooklyn street guide says the thoroughfare was known as 'the liberty road' because it was free to farmers travelling over it. Liberty Avenue runs about 8 miles through Brooklyn and Queens. On May 29, 2021, it was co-named 'Little Guyana Avenue', after the Indo-Caribbean neighbourhood along its stretch in South Richmond Hill, Queens.
