Named after the avenue Simon-Bolivar, which honours Simón Bolívar (1783–1830).
Known as the Libertador, he played a decisive part in the independence of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru and Venezuela, and was the first president of Gran Colombia. The opening of the street, extending part of the old rue de Puebla, was decided in 1862; it became the rue Bolivar in 1880 and the avenue Simon-Bolivar in 1927.
