Named after the place de la Bourse and the old Paris stock exchange.
The square takes its name from the palais de la Bourse, now the palais Brongniart, built at Napoleon I's instigation on the ruins of the Filles-Saint-Thomas convent. The square was opened by decree on 15 February 1809 and officially named in 1844. Share trading moved to computers in the banks in 1987; the palace housed the Matif futures market until 1998.
