Named after the rue du Sentier, which gave its name to the Sentier quarter.
Sentier means ‘path’; the origin of the name is uncertain. The Lazare brothers wrote that the street replaced, from the 17th century, a path leading to the city rampart, and that some maps call it ‘rue du Chantier’. Jacques Hillairet says it was first a path where a hungry wolf is said to have come in the harsh winter of 1612–1613.
