Named after the avenue des Champs-Élysées and the place Clemenceau.
The Champs-Élysées take their name from the Elysian Fields, where the souls of the virtuous rested in Greek mythology. The place Clemenceau honours Georges Clemenceau (1841–1929), prime minister in the First World War. The station opened in 1900 as Champs-Élysées and took its present name in 1931.
