Named after the rue de Miromesnil, which honours Armand Thomas Hue de Miromesnil (1723–1796).
Letters patent of 18 July 1776 gave his name to the new street while he was Louis XVI's Keeper of the Seals (1774–1787); the City's register spells it Miroménil there and dates today's name to an order of 1 May 1880. Miromesnil drafted the royal ordinance of 1780 that abolished the 'question préparatoire', torture used on the accused during the proceedings to force a confession.
