Named after the place and avenue d'Iéna, which recall Napoleon's victory at Jena.
On 14 October 1806 Napoleon's army defeated the Prussians at Jena. The avenue takes its name from the nearby pont d'Iéna, which Napoleon named by a decree dated from Warsaw in 1807. In 1815 Marshal Blücher wanted to destroy the bridge; it was saved but renamed pont de l'École-Militaire, and got its name back only under Louis-Philippe.
