Jasmin

Paris 16e

Named after the rue Jasmin, which honours the poet Jacques Boé, known as Jasmin (1798–1864).

A hairdresser in his native Agen, Jasmin wrote in the Occitan spoken there and gave the langue d'oc new impetus. Balzac gently mocked him as the 'poète perruquier' (wig-maker poet). Once part of Auteuil's rue de la Cure, the street took his name by an order of 3 December 1885.
