Ranelagh

Paris 16e

Named after the rue du Ranelagh, which leads to the Ranelagh garden.

The garden, laid out in 1860, kept the name of the ‘petit Ranelagh’, a dance garden opened on 25 July 1774 in the grounds of the château de la Muette. Its founder, Morissan, a guard at the barrière de Passy, imitated the Ranelagh Gardens at Chelsea in London, on the site of the house of Richard Jones, Lord Ranelagh (1641–1712), an Irish politician and diplomat.
