Named after the boulevard de La Tour-Maubourg, which honours the Marquis de Latour-Maubourg (1768–1850).
A cavalry general under Napoleon, he lost a leg to a cannonball at Leipzig; to his weeping servant he reportedly said that he would now have only one boot to polish. Under Louis XVIII he was minister of war from 1819 to 1821, then governor of the Invalides, which the boulevard has run alongside since it opened in 1827.
