Named after the pont Marie, which takes its name from the engineer Christophe Marie.
Marie began the bridge in 1614, as part of a project to build houses on the Île Saint-Louis. The station opened in 1926; its subtitle, Cité des Arts, comes from the international artists' residence nearby, opened in 1965.
