Named after the porte de Versailles, the gate on the road to Versailles.
The gate was cut through the Thiers wall on the boundary between Paris and Issy-les-Moulineaux. The station is subtitled Parc des Expositions, after the large exhibition centre next to it. It opened in 1910.
