Named after the rue de la Convention, after the National Convention.
The Convention was the assembly elected in September 1792, the first in France chosen by universal male suffrage; at its first sitting it abolished the monarchy, and it sat until 1795. The street, cut in 1888 and 1896, was first called rue de Vouillé, which it extends, and got its present name by an order of 26 December 1893.
