Named after the town of Villejuif and the Gustave Roussy cancer institute.
Gustave Roussy (1874–1948), a Franco-Swiss neurologist and cancer specialist, founded the institute next to the station. The name was chosen by a public vote in 2022. When it opened in January 2025, it became the deepest metro station in France.
