Donaustadtbrücke

Named after the Donaustadtbrücke, the U2 bridge over the Danube.

The bridge (Brücke) crosses the Danube and links the 2nd district with the 22nd, the Donaustadt, which has had this name since 1954. Begun in 1995 and opened in March 1997, it first carried road traffic as a diversion while the nearby Praterbrücke was rebuilt. Since October 2010 it has carried the U2. During planning, the station's working title was ‘Seestern’ (starfish).
