Named after Enkplatz, which honours the writer Michael Leopold Enk von der Burg.
The square, formerly Marktplatz (market square), was renamed on 5 July 1894 after Michael Leopold Enk von der Burg (1788–1843). Born in Vienna, he became a Benedictine monk at Melk because of a vow made by his mother, against his own convictions. A writer of pessimistic works, he guided the dramatist Friedrich Halm; rumours even claimed Enk had written Halm's first success, ‘Griseldis’.
