Named after Johann Haberl, a merchant and mayor of Neulerchenfeld.
The lane honours Johann Haberl (1812–1883), merchant and mayor of Neulerchenfeld, then a separate suburb. It has borne his name since 1867; in 1883 its northern part was merged into Reinhartgasse, and on 8 July 1959 that part was brought back into the Haberlgasse.
