Named after Georg Rebhann, an engineer and bridge builder.
Georg Rebhann (1824–1892) taught bridge building at the Polytechnic Institute and was rector of the Technische Hochschule in 1882/1883. With Emil Winkler he founded the Viennese school of bridge building, and he built the Aspernbrücke (1863/1864); in 1879 he became ‘Ritter von Aspernbruck’. The lane, formerly Daffingergasse, was named in 1895.
