The name recalls the ‘Tabor’, a fortified bridgehead on the Danube.
In the early 15th century Duke Albrecht V had an earthwork built against the Hussites to guard the Danube bridge, built in the manner of the Hussite stronghold of Tábor in Bohemia and called ‘Tabor’. The name later passed to a toll house here and then to this whole part of the Leopoldstadt. The street was officially named on 4 July 1890.
