Named after Leopold Arends (1817–1882), inventor of a shorthand system.
Arends, born in Lithuania, came to Berlin in 1844 as a writer and later developed his own shorthand system. The street, first known as Straße 101 and unofficially as Taubenweg, was named in 1927. It forms the north–south axis of the Weiße Taube housing estate.
