Named after Schalkau, a small town in Thuringia.
Schalkau was first recorded in 1011 and received town and market rights in 1362. The street already existed before 1930. Like several streets here named after Thuringian towns, it was closed in the 1970s to make way for a new housing estate; in 1998 it was laid out again along its old route.
